The quickest route needs no app at all. Open the Camera, point it at the code, and tap the notification that appears — iOS reads the credentials and joins the network. On a router sticker or a printed guest card, this takes a couple of seconds.

That last detail is the one that matters in practice. Copying a whole QR payload gives you WIFI: S:Name; T:WPA; P:secret;, which is useless in a password box. Copying the field gives you secret.

The code is not a Wi-Fi code. Plenty of stickers on routers encode a support URL or a serial number rather than credentials. If the scanner shows a link instead of a network name, that is what happened — the credentials are usually printed as text beside it.
The password was changed. A printed code is a snapshot. Change the network password and every card and sticker showing the old one is silently wrong.
The network is on a newer security standard. Some codes generated for WPA3 networks do not carry across cleanly to every device. If joining fails but the password looks right, connect manually from Wi-Fi settings and type it.
The sticker is damaged or curved. A code wrapped around a router's edge, scratched, or behind glare may not resolve. Flatten the surface, add light, and move the phone slightly further away rather than closer.
Generating a QR code for your network is genuinely convenient for guests, and worth doing with a couple of things in mind. The password is in the code in plain text — a photograph of the card on your kitchen wall is your Wi-Fi password, forever, for whoever took it.
If your router supports a separate guest network, put the code on that one instead. Guests get internet, your printer and your network drive stay out of reach, and changing the guest password later does not disconnect every device you own.
